NYCHESSKIDS
SUMMER CAMP 2001

The Summer Chess Camp is enjoying its fifth year anniversary, and this season has been quite possibly the best.
Headed off by International Master Saudin Robovic and Michael Poukchanski, the children are receiving instruction and analysis from top players. Students arrive at 10am and warm up with tactical puzzles and worksheets. The students then play a "training game", complete with master-level analysis afterwards to give the serious scholastic player a chance for a specialized lesson from the instructor one-on-one. After a relaxing lunch complete with a movie or music, our young players do everything from baseball to water guns in the park. This gives our students chances for socializing with their opponents and lots of sun and physical activity! The kids are encouraged to play many types of games, not only chess, during the camp day. Cards, checkers, game boys, go, bughouse, Japanese bead games, and plain goofiness are some of the other activities. Later in the afternoon, Saudin gives instructional and animated lectures. After a full day, one would be amazed to see how much the kids enjoy playing blitz (speed chess) or bughouse (four-person chess) until a parent arrives (and sometimes long after!) NYChesskids understands that the summer break from school is a great opportunity to keep young minds stimulated and challenged through everyone's favorite game of art, logic, analysis, and problem solving. Imagine our kids returning to school in the fall with a better understanding of the powers of the mind, and more self-confidence than when they left! Feel free to look at some of the highly creative and complex games that have made us so proud of our summer camp students.
