Public School 41 Organized Successful
Tournament on March 17

Report by Amit Teli

The PS 41 scholastic tournament was held on March 17; everyone here at the NyChessKids was very excited since our troop from the Lincoln Center was participating in their first ever tournament. The kids were understandably nervous till the tournament started. Once the tournament was under way though, they were in their element; and they all performed beyond expectations. The star of the show however, was five year old Jonah Shifrin. He took clear second in his section with 3.5/4.0 (read below for interview with this exceptional young man.) The tournament was divided in two sections; and youngsters from all over the city showed up to have a go at the gold. There was an open section and a K-1 section to accommodate players of all strengths. Thanks to dedicated parents who actively took part in organizing every face of the tournament; the children as well as parents went home happy with memories of an experience that will stay with them for the rest of their lives.
