194 players registered for the fourth NYChessKids chess tournament of the 2006-2007 school year, with 176 making it through the downpour to actually play. It is noteworthy that the Reserve section itself had 60 players registered! For the first time, the Championship section brought more than ten players, which is significant because this meant not everyone was guaranteed one of the special prizes and thus there was a bit more to play for.

An interesting note about the progress of scholastic chess: the Primary (K-3 rated Under-700) section contained as many kindergarten students as it did third grade students (three apiece). This would probably be shocking even five years ago.
