For twenty days during September and October, the best players of the world will show their talent in the province of San Luis while competing for the most important title. The Tournament, which will have an extraordinary broadcasting and which is sponsored by the World Chess Federation (FIDE), will gather the attention of millions of people throughout the world.

The matches will be broadcasted live to the whole world via Internet at www.ajedrezdepunta.com which is the best medium for this kind of championship, with daily growing audience projections.

Vishwanathan Anand : Former FIDE World Champion
Born in Madras on December 11th , 1969. He learned to play at the age of six, with his mother as first teacher Since a child he proved his talent to play at an unusual speed. Today it is an important weapon in his strategy. In 1991, at the classic “Reggia Emilia” of Italy, he won the tournament beating Kasparov and Karpov. In 2000 he became FIDE’s World Champion beating Alexey Shirov, and revalidated the title in 2002. Today he is number 2 in the world ranking behind Kasparov.
Veselin Topalov : International Grandmaster
Born in Ruse, Bulgaria on March 15th ,1975. He is currently number 3 of Fide’s world ranking. His aggressive style and theoretical preparation led him to the top of world’s chess. In 2004, he reached the semifinals of the FIDE Championship in Trípoli, Libya, but he lost to current world cahmpion Rustam Kasimdzhanov. He beat Kasparov in his last match at the prestigious tournament of Linares, sharing the first position. Polls show him as one of the candidates to win the title.
Judit Polgar : The strongest woman in chess history.
Judith Polgar was born on 23rd July 1976 in Budapest, Hungary. She began to compete internationally in 1984. In 1991, at15 years and 5 months of age, she became the youngest GM in history. One of the great attractions of the World Championship is the participation of Judith Polgar. She will be the only woman in a men’s environment, but she lives it as a normal situation and doesn’t care. She is the only woman who defeated the great Garry Kasparov and also the only one to make it to THE TOP 10. Judith has achieved it abstaining from participating in tournaments where there is a sex based separation.
Alexander Morozevich : International Grandmaster
Born on July 18th, 1977 in Moscow. He is the most creative of the participants. His matches have the magic of the “belle époque” of chess. In 2003 he won the Biel International Chess Festival with 8 points over 10 and tied Peter Svidler for first in the 56th Russian Championship. In 2004 he won the 13th Amber Blindfold and tied Vladimir Kramnik for first in the overall standings. Comments by his colleagues say it all:

Peter Leko : Hungarian chess star
Born in Subotica on September 8th, 1979. With a 2763 ELO he is world’s number 4.
He was very close of beating Vladimir Kramnik at the Professional World Chess Championship, but in the last game he lost and since they tied up in points, the title remained in the champion's hands. His victory at the "big three" annual supertournaments (Corus, Linares and Dortmund) moved him ahead of Kramnik to the fourth place in the FIDE rating list of april 2005.
He is considered to be one of the most important theorists of the circuit. His youth and his aggressive style make him a major candidate to win FIDE’s championship.
Rustam Kasimdzhanov : Current International Chess Federation World Champion
Born on December 5th, 1979 in Uzbekistan.
With a solid game and excellent theoretical preparation he was the great surprise at Tripoli 2004 World Championship, defeating world’s best players, Vasily Ivanchuk, Zoltan Amasi, Alexander Grischuk and Veselin Topalov among others. In the final match he defeated British Michael Adams becoming FIDE’s World Champion.
Michael Adams : The best player in England’s chess history.
Born in England on November 17th, 1971 with a 2741 ELO he is currently number 11 of FIDE’s world ranking. He is the best player in England’s chess history. At the age of 17 he won the British championship for the first time.In 1997, Adams took part in the FIDE knock-out tournament to decide who would play against the FIDE champion Anatoli Karpov. He won short matches against Tamaz Giorgadze, Sergei Tiviakov, Peter Svidler, Loek Van Wely and Nigel Short before losing in the finals to the prowess at rapid at blitz chess of Viswanathan Anand. His most notable tournament victory was at Dos Hermanas in 1999, finishing ahead of important world players such as Vladimir Kramnik, Viswanathan Anand, Peter Svidler, Anatoli Karpov, Veselin Topalov, and Judit Polgar.
Peter Svidler : A brilliant young man
He was born on 17th june, 1976 in Leningrad, Russia. He learn how to play chess at 6 and became GM in 1994. At the age of 18, he won the Russian Championship, one of the most prestigious existing tournaments, for the first time. Although the current champion is Kasparov, young Svidler beat him for the fourth time in 2003, an accomplishment that no one has achieved in the post Soviet Union era. He is an exceptional fast game player and his original style has provided him many victories. He defeated Peter Leko 4 and a half to 3 and a half, winning the Chess 960 (Fischer Random) World Championship. Many think he could be the surprise in San Luis
